Journalists Vasilis Dimaras with columns in sites andro.gr and fnl-guide.com and Elli Stergiou from propaganda.gr accepted our challenge, to join us in an adventure in the world of coffee, with their sense of smell as their only guide!

Our Coffee Island Coffee Shop in N. Smyrni became a meeting point of coffee and journalism, in the most delicious and original way. The long awaited day arrived, and we were all excited for this peculiar cupping event. Our challengers arrived, participated in the experience prepared for them, and left filled with knowledge and details, ready for new flavorful experiences!

Vasilis and Elli were individually greeted by Coffee Island specialists, Panagiotis Konstantinopoulos and Alexandros Zapaniotis. The cupping experience was about to begin and our guests were ready to experience what lay hidden within our notorious coffee beans, that we had sent by mail a few days before.

So with their eyes shut and their sense of smell on high alert, we led them to the cupping station, where in turn, they could evaluate the best coffee beans in the world.

The first thing our journalist friends were informed on was the coffee’s origin: El Salvador, Colombia and Ethiopia. What they had to figure out, was which coffee came from where. To do this they had to identify the flavor profile of each coffee they tasted.  And what was the result? They were able to evaluate the coffee they sampled and discovered the story behind every coffee bean, before it arrived in their cup.

Coffee Island helped the two journalists become true coffee “scientists” in a day filled with joy, flavors and aroma. You could tell from their sincere eyes that this day will be unforgettable and as Elli said: “…everything we “readily” enjoy, hides a story behind it, and should this story become known to us, it might make us appreciate the moment a little more”.
